When manufacturers, and with them models that were considered mediocre years ago, start to stand out so positively and offer so much content and modern design, then the segment in which this is happening is close to boiling point. And that's exactly what happened with the new hyundai i20, because it is light years ago in the form of a getz model, but on the other hand, it is so close to its European competition that it is rightly worried.

New ones hyundai i20 it has grown and matured into one of the most concrete models B-segment, whose designers and engineers have managed to make it work, drive and look like a bigger model, and the feeling in the passenger cabin is the same, in terms of space and materials, and last but not least, the proportions and shape of the dashboard. This is the case with the new i20, which was developed and manufactured fully in Europe, a repeat success story of the i10 model, who previously walked in similar footsteps, leaving his predecessor far "behind".

So let's start at the beginning. Design-wise, from any angle, you will look in vain for similarities with the previous model. There simply aren't any. The exterior design is very modern and tailored to latest European guidelines. Many people also used the word "copied" a bit of this and that... but we say that the i20 is fresh and unique enough to plagiarism cannot be blamed. If anyone sees any similarities with e.g Giulietta however, the new Hyundai i20 cannot be considered a defense either. The distinctive feature is the engine mask with pronounced horizontal lines and stretched headlights. A nice touch, they are nicely designed LED daytime running lights, so you simply forget about xenon.

The interior has also gained in terms of quality and equipment, and the dashboard is surprisingly large, which could not be defended even by the i30 or even the i40 sister model.

Viewed from the side, the novia hyundai i20 seems larger and the brain involuntarily places it closer to the Golf and the like. This means that it hides its dimensions, its length only slightly exceeding the "magical" four meters, and its special feature is its floating roof. The impression of it is enchanting C-pillar covered in black, which further enhances the visual impression the vehicle leaves behind. If it weren't for the markings on the nose and rear, the vast majority would have thought it was someone of the renowned German toddler, the designers did their job so well.

The interior, just like the exterior, represents a similar growth compared to the previous i20, as the appearance of the dashboard, switches, steering wheel and more are light years from the one before it. Considering the segment, the center console surprises with its spaciousness (read: width), and there is room even when two adult men are sitting in the front seats, but there is always enough in the shoulder area as well. If you didn't look at the car before you got into it, you definitely would thought, Yes sit in a C-segment car, if we hadn't looked back, someone would have been able to say even more than that.

The materials have also gained both in terms of appearance (more piano blacks) as well as quality, but it is true that the tester's interior was rather monotonous and barren due to the black color. This also took a toll on the impression they leave behind gauges, which in our opinion are leave too much or rather it is with them the designers ran out of imagination. The dashboard is much better cut in one of the three other (more colorful) color shades available, where the aforementioned flaws are also less noticeable and distracting.

Even in the second row, you can sit well, certainly better than the class average in terms of centimeters or the lack of them. In addition, the backrest of the seat bench is not excessively vertical, and the headrests in their lowest position do not massage the back of the passengers. Trunk it is also acquired compared to its predecessor, namely it is based on a new one for 326- (previously 295 l), if desired, you can simply increase it all up to 1,042 liters.

That the equipment of the new i20 forces it into a higher class is proven by the standard front heated seats and the steering wheel, which are accompanied by the "lane assist" system. The standard six-speed manual transmission is commendable.

In terms of equipment, the i20 also forces, or rather wants, a class higher. The tester was overpowered the richest equipment package, which is eloquent proof of this, as they are basically part of the equipment, among other things heated front seats and steering wheel, in addition to the cruise control uncontrolled lane change control system, the icing on the cake is a self-dimming interior mirror, parking aids and anything else you could find. That's basically how we are missed only factory navigation, which you can probably get, although we did not find it on the price lists. Among the accessories, there are also many electrified ones panoramic window, for which they want 870 euros, and high-quality leather upholstery for an additional 600 euros. There is also a smart key and a button to start the engine and reversing camera. The tester was not able to do both, but considering everything (read the last paragraph), it should have.

She took care of driving the tester the most powerful diesel option in the form of 1.4-liter CRDi engine with 66 kW and 240 Nm of torque and commendable six-level manually gearbox. The engine likes to rev and is never annoyingly loud. This is also helped by the excellent soundproofing, which, together with the high-quality closing (sound) of the door, once again ensures an additional increase in the model's reputation. The engine does not burst with power, but commendably does not have a detectable turbo hole at very low revs, even when it is cold it quickly grabs the reins. In terms of economy, emissions are for 97 grams of CO2, which is no excess (more) in this size class. Consumption and all the time varies between 5.5 and 6.5 liters, with an intermediate stop at 5.9-liter average consumption on the test.

All things considered, we didn't even expect a low price, and it turned out to be true, but hands down, the most expensive hyundai i20 currently on offer….it's pretty expensive. Including a 1,200 euro discount (which is valid until further notice) still it costs fairly a high of 15,830 euros, with the aforementioned addition, the "17" does not escape him. So we can say that just like with the rest of the content, spaciousness and, last but not least, driving characteristics the price forces it into a higher class.
