A Thai teenage designer is completely changing the fashion industry

The 17-year-old Thai fashion designer Apichet "Madaew'" Atirattana has completely revolutionized the fashion industry with his unique style and, above all, unique materials.

Barely 17-year-old Apichet “Madaew” Atirattana became famous practically overnight for its extraordinary, unusual and unique creations from waste materialsin such as bird cages, discarded pieces of cloth and even waste plants. "I couldn't understand why people don't use what can still be used," said Airattana, who is especially fond of women's clothing.

Dresses made from painted cabbage leaves and wire chicken cages

Even as a small boy, Apichet was fascinated by the fashion magazines that the village barber subscribed to. The nickname “Madaew” stuck to him because he made his first creations out of almighty things he found at the market. Among the more interesting are painted cabbage leaves, wire from chicken cages, old shed roofs, straw, pots, old baskets. "I want to show people that ugly things that don't seem to go together can make something beautiful. And that you can be well dressed even if you don't have money for clothes," said Apichet.

He made a breakthrough with old grandmother's goods

Apichet became famous last summer when he made a dress from his grandmother's old clothes. In a photo that went viral on social media, the dress was seen falling 9 meters from under a footbridge over a local stream. He was soon invited to reality shows, including as a guest on Asia's Next Top Model. "I see myself as a highly influential designer and trend setter in the years to come. It depicts and celebrates the true essence of what it means to be Thai," said the American model of Thai roots Cindy Bishop.
