The Ballerina Project is a 14-year-long project by New Yorker Dan Shitagi, who captures the beauty of the dance movements of elegant ballerinas in a completely unexpected environment: on the relentless streets of the world's capitals.
Dane Shitagi it is New York photographer, which is with a photography project The Ballerina Project started already 14 years ago in Honolulu, Hawaii. Humble beginnings grew in 14 years into a project of global proportions, which today is followed by thousands of fans on Facebook and Instagram.
The photographer's idea was to capture the beauty of the dance movements of elegant ballerinas - but not in classical dance studios and well-kept halls of opera and ballet houses. He wanted to find the tenderness and emotions of the dancers in the urban environment of world cities. Thus, he emphasized the contrast between the ballerinas, whose souls are completely devoted to dance, and the streets of metropolises, which often seem implacable and dirty.
To date, photos of beautiful ballerinas have already been taken, among other things in New York, Boston and Toronto, and all the dancers come from large (mainly American) ballet houses and well-known dance schools. Until 2012, Shitagi took all his photos with a classic camera, but for the last two years his photos have also been digital. Following his example, similar projects began to emerge also in other countries of the world.
