Ingredients

  • 300 g of flour
  • 200 g of cold butter
  • 100 g of powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 medium-sized apples (the best granny smith varieties)
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 vanilla sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Directions

  1. Preparation of the dough: Mix the flour, powdered sugar and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Add the cubed cold butter and mix with your hands to form a crumbly mixture. Then add the egg and quickly knead the dough until it becomes smooth. Wrap it in foil and put it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. Preparation of the filling: While the dough is cooling, peel and cut the apples into thin slices. In a large bowl, mix the apples, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla sugar, lemon juice and cornstarch. Stir to combine the ingredients evenly.
  3. Making the pie: Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Divide the cooled dough into two parts - one part for the bottom and one part for the top. Roll out the first part to the size of the baking pan and place it on the bottom and sides of the baking pan (diameter approx. 24 cm). Spread the apple filling evenly on the dough.
  4. Finishing the pie: Roll out the rest of the dough and cut it into strips. Arrange the strips over the filling in a grid pattern. Press the edges against the edge of the pie to connect the strips to the base.
  5. Baking: Bake the apple pie in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and crispy, and the apple filling is soft and juicy.
  6. Serving: Sprinkle the cooled pie with powdered sugar if desired. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Make this easy apple pie always your first choice when you want something sweet, juicy and crunchy. The process is simple, but the result is absolutely divine! Bon appétit!
