There are probably a million reasons why New Years and Christmas are the most wonderful and best times of the year, starting with festive music, delicious food and sweets, and spending time with loved ones. Also, one of the best parts of the holiday season is curling up under the covers with a big mug of hot chocolate, cocoa or tea, turning on the TV and watching your favorite Christmas movie.

What are the best Christmas movies of all time? Whether you prefer classics, comedies, dramas or prime-time TV movies, there's always a Christmas movie to make you laugh, whatever your mood. If you too are nostalgic or hoping for a little trip back in time this coming holiday season, why not start with Christmas movies that were popular in the 90s?

Here are some of the best Christmas movies we've picked. It's time to go back to the era before cell phones, virtual reality and enjoy those Christmas movies. Enter 2023 with a little nostalgia.

Santa (1994)

Let's start with a true classic. When Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) accidentally causes Santa to fall off the roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself in an awkward situation - he is magically recruited to take the place of Santa, whose sleigh takes Scott to the North Pole, where he learns that due to a special clause unwittingly accepted the job of Santa in the contract.

Soon, the divorced businessman puts on a shocking amount of weight, grows a beard and his laughter becomes boisterous. Despite his efforts to live a normal life, he learns to become Santa Claus and a better father along the way. The film is definitely touching, funny and an ideal choice for the holiday season.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Another cult classic. One of Tim Burton's most famous characters, Jack Skellington, is the main face of Halloween Town, where Halloween takes place all year round. Wanting a change, Jack wanders out of town and reaches a portal that leads to Christmas Town.

Fascinated by the snow, lights and lanterns, as well as the character Sandy Claws (Santa Claus), Jack returns to Halloween Town, determined to have his own Christmas. You'll also find amazing songs in this movie, perfect for all of you who can't decide whether you prefer Christmas or Halloween.

Home Alone (1990)

Of course, we already announced Macaulay Culkin, because the holiday season cannot go by without Home Alone appearing on someone's home screen at least once. This movie needs no special introduction, so we'll just remind you to watch it again and enjoy the antics of little Kevin playing thieves!

If you haven't seen this movie yet, we don't know what to tell you other than turn on any streaming platform immediately and do your homework before Christmas.

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

If you've seen this classic before, you may have noticed that we mentioned 1994. It's a remake of the 1947 film of the same name. The film follows single mother and grocery store owner Dorey Walker, who hires an older man after firing a drunk clerk named Kris Kringle for the new Santa Claus at her store. However, Chris was doing his job so well that a rival store found a way to report him and arrest him.

Dorey and her lawyer partner take Chris's case to court. Not only do they have to prove that Santa Claus actually exists, but they also have to convince everyone present, including her granddaughter, who doesn't believe in Santa Claus, that Chris is the real one. In short, plenty of romance, humor and a huge festive atmosphere await you.

Jack Frost (1998)

The film follows Jack Frost (Michael Keaton), the frontman of The Jack Frost Band. Jack loves his wife and son, but he constantly puts his music career before them, performing and recording music. After giving his son Charlie an accordion that turns out to be magical, Jack tragically dies in a car accident. The magic emanating from the accordion brought Jack back to Earth for the holidays - in the form of Snow White.

So in his new "body" he does everything in his power to be a better father to his son before he melts away. We recommend that you take a box of tissues with this movie in addition to a blanket and hot chocolate...

The Nutcracker (1993)

Get ready to spot some very familiar faces in this classic. This film stars a young Macaulay Culkin and the story begins on Christmas Eve as the family prepares for a Christmas party. Soon, what seems very ordinary turns into a magical, fantastical adventure full of dance.

All I Want For Christmas (1991)

Before Thora Birch starred in Hocus Pocus, she played the younger sister in another holiday film. The movie in question is All I Want For Christmas. Birch and young Ethan Embry play a brother and sister who, with the help of a little Christmas magic from Santa, do what they can to appease their parents.
