The World of Reel website has published the results of a poll in which 250 film critics and filmmakers ranked their 5 favorite films made in the last decade - read below for the best modern films according to film critics. Have you seen them all yet?
1. Mad Max: Fury Road, (Mad Max 2015)
First place went to the latest Mad Max movie. As much as ¼ of the participants in the survey rated it as the best film of the last decade. It is a tense and visually sophisticated cinematic treat, which is further spiced up by the excellent acting of both the main and supporting actors.
2. The tree of life (2011)
The melancholic film experience processes existential questions about nature, life, God and death in a poetic and abstract way. The film is not only philosophically interesting, but also takes us on a cinematic journey of beautiful shots of nature.
3. Moonlight, (Moonlight 2017)
The film Moonlight won the Oscar for best film last year. The story touches on important themes such as love, growing up and understanding others.
4. Boyhood 2014
It is one of the boldest film projects in the last ten years. The film was filmed for 12 years and thus achieved the natural aging of the characters (the same actor plays the boy at a young age, as well as later, when he has grown up). The film is almost 3 hours long and tells the story of a family that faces a variety of problems.
5. The social network, (The social network 2010)
The story is about the creation of Facebook. It contains some modifications for the sake of a better cinematic experience, but it still remains a compelling and tense narrative of the emergence of major platforms in the last few years.
6. The Master (2012)
The Master is a tense psychological narrative that follows the relationship between two men: a strange priest and a lost soldier who needs someone to guide him in life.
7. Roma, (ROMA 2018)
Roma is the film that received the most Oscar nominations this year. The black and white film follows the difficult life of a Mexican woman in the 1970s.
8. Phantom Thread, (Phantom Thread 2017)
Reynolds Woodcock is a perfectionist who represses his emotions and obsessively pursues his career goals. When he finds a new muse who doesn't follow his whims, he must deal with internal conflicts.
9. A separation (2011)
The Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film raises more questions than it answers. When his wife leaves Nader, he hires a young woman to take care of his demented father.
10. Llewyn Davis, (Inside Llewyn Davis Theatrical 2014)
The film vividly outlines how it hurts if we don't find our place under the sun. The protagonist is a talented and promising musician, but despite his talent and hard work, he fails to achieve his goals.
