The desert, unrelenting and harsh, is certainly not the place you imagine your dream home to be. Bev Doolittle and her husband imagine it differently, who decided to buy four acres of dry land and rock outside California's Joshua Tree National Park and build The Desert House, one of the most stunning and unique pieces of residential architecture we've ever seen. It was for sale a few days ago, today it is sold.
The Desert House, which was originally conceived in the mid-1980s, took about seven years from the initial foundation to its completion in 1993. The Doolittles teamed up with a group of great architects to create their vision: a home that blends into the rugged surroundings.
Ken Kellogg and his unique works in Japan and Hawaii, evoked the aesthetics and vibes the couple were looking for.
Around 432 square meters a large house of concrete, steel, glass and copper is built on living granite rock. The exterior of the building resembles a giant arthropod to a spaceship, depending on where we stand. The interior, however, reaches for even more radical ideas. The natural rich light blends with the rocks and the incredible interior design he designed John Vugrin.
And the price? Around 2.5 million euros.
