At the age of 82, the legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, who dressed countless world stars and influential ladies, died at his home in Connecticut.
Oscar De la Renta, a top fashion designer, was born in 1932 in Dominican Republic. At the age of 18, he moved to Madrid to study painting, but it soon dragged him into fashionable waters. He nurtured his talent with designer Cristobal Balenciaga, and rose to prominence in the 1960s when he became "house" creator of the then American first lady Jacqueline Kennedy. He founded his fashion house in New York in 1965. After launching his first line, Oscar de la Renta dressed Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton.
De la Renta has also dressed red carpet celebrities in his creations, such as Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker, as well as a Lebanese-British lawyer Amal Alamuddin is married to George Clooney wore his creation in Venice. He will be remembered for his classic women's skirts with cinched waists and his love for pink patterns.
