Sixty-year-old Harpagon (Gregor Čušin) is such a stubborn miser that he not only has a coachman and a cook in one person and starving horses in the stable, but even after the death of his own children Cléant (Jurij Drevenšek) and Élise (Ana Dolinar), he would wonder if this might not bring him certain benefits. For example, the inheritance that the children received from their deceased mother.
From morning to night, his only thought is how to accumulate, save, and protect as much money as possible. Well, almost his only thought.
The second is that he wants to marry the young, poor Mariane (Tjaša Železnik). However, things get complicated because his son is also looking for the beautiful girl.
On top of that, not everything is going according to plan regarding his daughter's wedding, and he is especially worried about that unfortunate money.
All of the above is the source of numerous comic situations and dialogues, until in the end it is Harpagon's unchaste trait that contributes to a happy outcome.
