How much did you pay for the last bottle of whiskey you indulged in? Probably not half a million euros.
Such a high price was achieved by whiskey Macallan "M", which was recently sold at auction Stoheby's in Hong Kong. The final price of the bottle reached an incredible 460,290 euros, making "M" the world record holder for the most expensive bottle of whiskey in the world.
The Macallan M is special mainly because of its rarity. The handmade crystal bottle is 70 centimeters high and holds as much as six liters of precious drink. It was made by 17 French glassmakers who, after 50 hours of work and 40 discarded bottles, achieved perfection and named the bottle after the Roman Emperor Constantine. Even the drink trapped in the bottle is special. It is distilled in the Macallan distillery in Scotland, where seven of the best quality were selected from among 200,000 barrels aged between 25 and 75 years for "M" whisky. As the Macallan brand ambassador said Charlie Whitfield, barrels were selected for two years.
With a bit of luck, you can also buy "M" whiskey. The Macallan also released the whiskey in a series of "regular" bottles called Constantine. There are 1,750 bottles available, and you will pay 3,500 euros for one.
