From Luna to Max, from classic to downright adorably weird - we checked out which dog names drove dog owners around the world crazy in 2025.
Dogs & dog names. Dogs are our loyal companions, therapists with tails, and masters of the "bamby" look. And according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), there will be more than 68 millionYes, you read that right – sixty-eight million furry creatures who, in exchange for a bowl of kibble, save the world from postmen, mammals, and cats from the next street every day.
This doesn't mean it's just an animal - no, it's fur babies, four-legged family members whose owners buy organic food for them, take yoga classes with them, and open Instagram accounts for them without a bad conscience. And if our human child is “Liam” or “Olivia,” why shouldn’t ours be “Liam” or “Olivia”? baby dog “Moon” or “Max”?
How do we know which dog names are the most popular?
In 2025, data analysts (read: people who spend too much time with spreadsheets) reviewed more than 80,000 entries pet insurance companies. Among the data, they found the names of the dogs and the regions they come from. The result? A list of names that currently rule the dog scene – globally, not just across the pond.
Top 20 Dog Names in 2025

- Bella – Beauty and the Beast? Better Beauty and the Dog Blanket.
- Charlie – A name that could be for a boy, a grandfather, or… a loyal Labrador.
- Max – Classic, strong, dog-like. Fits both a pitbull and a chihuahua with a Napoleon complex.
- Daisy – If dogs had a Pinterest profile, it would be Daisy.
- Lucy – Another classic that never goes out of style.
- Coco – Maybe Chanel. Maybe cocoa. Both smell of pampering.
- Soap – Slightly vintage, but totally chic.
- Cooper – He sounds like someone who drives a Mini Cooper and has a very neat tail.

- Bailey – Either a dog or liquor. Both go with the evening.
- Buddy – A friend for all time.
- Lola – The fatal dog of the world.
- Bear – For those giant dogs who actually still sleep in your lap.
- Sadie – Soft and warm like your morning coffee (which the dog just spilled on you).

What do dog names reveal?
A lot. Names like Moon, Bella and Charlie, have been reigning supreme for years – and could easily be replaced by popular baby names. (It wouldn't be the first time you've come across a set of twins where one is a quadruped.) On the other hand, there are also emerging trends – Max and Daisy they have a film pedigree, Soap, Coco and Moose and they would be completely at home on the cover of the dog version of Vogue.
It's also interesting that many dog names are related to food. If your dog has a name Oreos, Peanut, Cookies or Honey, then we know he's likely to catch you during a midnight visit to the fridge. (And he probably deserves it more than you do.)
So, what's your dog's name?
If your pup sounds like one of the names above, you're in good company. But if not—and you call him something like “Django,” “Pickle,” or “Sir”—don't worry. That's the charm of the eccentric, who's always two steps ahead of the trends... or at least one mud puddle away from the bathroom.
In short
The moon leads the way among the stars, Bella is a timeless classic, Charlie is just Charlie. And whether your dog has a name that the entire canine world knows or something completely unique – one thing is certain: loyalty and love know no dictionary.
