A recipe for a homemade anti-fungal cream? While it may sound like your uncle, who believes in the power of garlic and silver water, suggested this recipe to you: toenail fungus and dandruff have a lot more in common than you might think. Both problems are caused by microscopic fungi — mainly yeast-like creatures of the Malassezia genus, which feed on the oils on our skin.

And here comes our hero in blue and white packagingHead & Shoulders shampooIt has been helping people overcome dandruff for decades, so why shouldn't it help you too? against foot fungus? So – homemade anti-fungal cream.

Why can hard skin be a result of fungal diseases (within the normal range)?

Hard, thickened skin on the feet – especially on the heels or along the edges of the toes – is often the result of mechanical irritation, such as pressure, friction, and wearing ill-fitting footwear. However, in some cases, the cause may be a little more subtle: fungal skin infection, also known as tinea pedis or athlete's foot.

Fungal skin infections feed on keratin, a protein that is the main component of the outer layer of the skin. When fungi colonize the epidermis, they cause inflammation, accelerated keratinization and disruption of the skin's natural regenerationThe result? The skin becomes thickened, cracked and dry, sometimes with associated itching or an unpleasant odor.

“Within the normal range” means that it is superficial infection, which does not spread into the deeper layers of the skin and does not cause systemic problems. Such a condition is often chronic and can remain for a long time unnoticed, as it does not necessarily manifest itself with significant peeling or redness. The skin acts as a protective shield – so the organism responds to the infection with skin thickening (hyperkeratosis), which is part of a defense mechanism. Of course, use it all together with the pedicure procedure.

When to consider the fungal background of hard skin?

  • If the skin becomes hard recurs despite regular care
  • If also present peeling between the toes, itching or cracking
  • If the skin becomes hard spreads symmetrically on both feet
  • If you have other fungal infections (e.g. nails)

Why does it work? Head & Shoulders, Vaseline and… banana?! Recipe for a homemade anti-fungal cream

Head & Shoulders contains zinc pyrithione, an antifungal agent that inhibits the growth of microorganisms on the skin. Vaseline It acts as a protective layer that locks in moisture and prevents further skin irritation. And the banana? Surprise! Banana contains potassium and antioxidants, which soothe the skin while softening hard and cracked skin – like a natural exfoliant in the form of a smoothie.

If you don't have one at home Head & Shoulders shampoo, you can also find a replacement in other shampoos for intensive dandruff treatment, such as for example Oronazole (containing ketoconazole) or another shampoo with antifungal agentBut be careful – these shampoos are stronger and more concentrated, so they should be used in very small quantities, only quarter teaspoon per use of the cream. We recommend that you do a sensitivity test on a small area of skin beforehand, as these products are developed for the scalp, not necessarily for the sensitive skin of the feet.
