In the best of the best category, where readers choose the winner from among all the winners of this award in the last ten years, the book The hate U give, which is also coming to the big screen soon, won. A 16-year-old girl, Starr Carter, sees her unarmed friend, Khalil, being shot by the police. The incident becomes a national sensation, and Starr is pressured by both sides on how to react.
