Although most American presidents and their families withdraw from Washington after the end of their term, the Obama family is clearly different. They remain 'at the scene of the crime' and will reside in a luxurious mansion worth more than 5 million euros.
When a presidential term is over, most first families want to go back to their old ways, to anonymity, away from Washington, D.C. The Obama family is clearly different. The youngest daughter Sasha has to finish school first, so the family is 'forced' to stay in Washington for a while longer.
The White House will be replaced by luxury brick mansion in the prestigious neighborhood of Kolorama, which is a good 3 kilometers away from the previous residence. Barack Obama he is thus only the second president to remain in Washington, DC after his term (the first president was Woodrow Wilson in 1921).

Kolorama is home to many embassies and ambassadorial residences and security is more than obviously taken care of. The Obama family has reportedly rented a luxury mansion with nine bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms, owned by former Clinton administration secretary Joe Lockart and his wife Giovanna Gray, who paid for the mansion in 2014 around 5 million euros. A luxurious home that was built in 1928, extends over more than 760 square meters, and its traditional 'skeleton' has been tastefully updated with modern appliances and decor.
