The Hindu festival of Diwali, which means "festival of lights", is celebrated by millions of people in India, Nepal and elsewhere every year in autumn. But the festival in Nepal has one special feature – one day of the festival is dedicated to our four-legged friends, dogs. On this day, people thank our furry friends for being who they are - loyal and loving.
"Dogs are not our whole life. But they create a whole in our lives," said Roger Caras. And in Nepal they are still aware of this.
During the days of the festival Diwali, the "festival of lights", a five-day festival takes place in Nepal Tihar and the second day of the festival is reserved for our faithful companions, for dogs. This day is called Kukur Tihar or Kukur Puja (dog worship). On this day, people hang dogs around their necks flower bouquets, they make a special mark on their foreheads, called Tick (red powder on their foreheads is a sign of holiness), they prepare delicious food for the dogs and celebrate a loving relationship between a dog and a human.
The thought of this wonderful festival fills the hearts of dog lovers all over the world.
