Julian Alps are our largest and highest mountain group and part of the Southern Limestone Alps. Most are included in Triglav National Park, and since 2003, as part of the UNESCO program "Man and the Biosphere", Julian has been declared biosphere reserve. They got the name indirectly after Gaius Julius Caesar or the Roman settlement of Forum Iulii (it was located near today's Čedad). Their highest peak is Triglav (2864 m), followed by the Italian one Assembly (2753 m).
