The mountain season is in full swing, and there are a few tips ahead of you that will make your way to the hills easier. Hiking is an excellent activity that, on top of everything else, creates unforgettable memories, but only this requires certain preparations and instructions that are important for your safety on the way.
According to the recommendations Mountaineering Association of Slovenia it is necessary to take care of both your safety and the safety of those with whom you are going on a trip.
Hiking and mountain climbing are endurance sports that strain the heart and increase blood circulation, so hikers and mountaineers need to be healthy and able to realistically assess their abilities. Do not rush at all, choose such a pace for walking that no one in the group falters. Falls due to slipping or tripping are the most common causes of accidents.
Tips for a safe hiking trail that are good to follow:
- If possible, do not go up the mountain alone or separate from the group.
- Tell your family or friends where you are going and the estimated time of your return.
- If you are in a group of hikers, always adapt to the less fit.
- Always sign in the visitor's book in mountain lodges.
- Ask and find out where you are going, plan your route and direction.
- Before leaving, always check the weather forecast and take spare warm clothes and a hat with you to protect you from possible rain and wind.
- Carry a flashlight, matches and a candle with you.
- Always carry a small first aid kit with you (including sunscreen and bug spray).
- Stick to marked and hiking trails.
- Carry a mountain map with you on any long trip.
- Have sturdy and comfortable shoes with rubber ribbed soles.
- Have complete mountain equipment with you - poles, helmet, compass, GPS.
- Take regular breaks.
- Take food and drink with you.
- Respect nature and the environment, so don't leave trash in nature, don't scare animals or tear plants
