Japanese company Toshiba has developed a new generation of SCiB rechargeable batteries for electric cars. They claim that these batteries can be charged in just six minutes and travel up to 320 kilometers.
More and more car manufacturers are incorporating electric motorsOf course, they need power to power these. batteries and the desire of each of them is that they should be charged as quickly as possible and provide the greatest possible range. Already in 2008, Toshiba introduced a new generation of batteries called SCiBNow they have been improved to the point where we can transport them up to 320 kilometers long way and refill them in only six minutesThe secret to fast charging and battery performance is said to be in material, which was used for battery anodes. In the first generation, anodes were made of lithium titanium oxide, and the new generation from titanium-nobium oxide. At Toshiba they claim the battery holds 90 % of your power also after 5,000 charging cycles.

Toshiba's new generation of SCiB batteries is certainly a step in the right direction in battery development. But Toshiba doesn't specify how much power a charger would need to provide such fast charging. For example, Tesla's fast charger achieves a charging power of up to 135 kW and so the Tesla Model S can 85 kWh battery transportation 426 kilometersWhether Toshiba's fast charger should be more powerful than Tesla's and by how much, we can only guess. Also Samsung is working rapidly on battery development and has already managed to assemble a set that allows for distances between 600 and 700 kilometers, which is very similar to internal combustion cars, which on average make 663 kilometers with a full tank of fuel. There is certainly great potential in new batteries, and we are not far from the time when we will be able to drive electric cars without fear of an empty battery.
