Trace: A clock where lasers show the passage of time

Twins Begum and Bike Ayaskan have their roots in Turkey, but they found their final destination, where they are currently creating, in London. Young female designers passionately explore the relationship between existence, man and objects. Their vision is to bring people closer to nature and vice versa, and to create dynamic pieces that change and develop with time. One such product is certainly the Trace product – a watch where lasers indicate the passage of time.

Ayaskan designers they wanted with Trace watch visualize the passage of time. It is actually shown by different colored tracks. The product contains a liquid with UV rays. They created the design for a competition Lexus Design Awards 2016 under the mentorship of the organization Snarkitecture. The clock, where lasers show the passage of time, convinced the judges and was awarded.

Through the Trace product, they wanted to draw attention to concept of time. Their goal was to show and confirm that the connection between the past, present and future does (still) exist. Their primary and fundamental philosophy goes something like this: take a moment to reflect on the present and you will realize that it not only leaves traces in our past, but also paves the way for our future.
