Traveling by train in Europe is back in trend, also for the sake of comfortable travel offered by individual companies and low carbon footprint. While covering distances, you can carefree fall asleep (who has ever had a good night's sleep on a plane?!), wake up in a new city and start exploring full of energy.
Traveling by train in Europe is the desire of many travelers. In the last few years, there has been a complete renaissance of sleeper trains, as a result of which new lines are springing up across Europe like mushrooms after the rain. From the Italian coast to European capitals, these are some of the most interesting lines for 2023 announced on the Timeout portal.
Traveling by train: Prague – Zurich line
The line of the Czech national operator České Drahy (ČD) connects the Czech capital Prague with the Swiss financial center Zurich, with stops in Dresden, Leipzig, Frankfurt and Basel in between. The train named "Canopus", which stopped running in 2017, was put back on the rails towards the end of last year, and in the near future it will also be equipped with new wagons.
Line Germany – Venice or The river
This brand new route, operated by NightJet, was introduced at the end of 2022. It takes you from Germany to Austria, and on through Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. The train departs from Stuttgart station and takes you towards Venice or Rijeka, stopping in between in cultural centers such as Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana and Zagreb. So you can make the journey from Central Europe to the Adriatic coast in the blink of an eye.
Line Brussels - Berlin
The highly anticipated line has been in the pipeline for some time. It was initially planned for 2022, but now it is expected to see the light of day in May 2023. Manager European Sleeper, who called the train the "Good Night Train", is said to connect with Eurostar, which allows Britons to have a direct connection with the rest of Europe.
Traveling by train Munich, Vienna - Italy
NightJet's other new line takes travelers from Central Europe to Italy's picturesque Ligurian coast. Trains depart from Vienna and Munich and arrive in Genoa in the morning hours. Just the right time for a spectacular drive to Spezia. Tip: For the best sea views, make sure you sit on the right side of the train.
Traveling by train Paris - Vienna, Budapest, Romania
NightJet's third new line is exclusively for romantics. During the journey connecting the European capitals Paris and Vienna, you will see a beautiful landscape through the windows of the train, and both cities are famous for their exceptional cultural and historical value. The very next night, you can continue your journey from Vienna to Budapest and Cluj-Napoca – two cities that are perfect for short city breaks.
