The next time you are asked how high Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia, is, the correct answer will no longer be 2864 meters, as we were taught in school, but 2863 m! According to the new official measurements, Triglav is 34 centimeters lower than we thought, which is the height of two steps. The measurement is the result of the transition to a new system of geodetic measurement, which provides the Geodetic Administration with more accurate data on the topology of the surface. The new height system no longer has its starting point in Trieste, and the result is that other peaks will also receive height corrections, albeit small ones. But what is little for Triglav, in the case of floods, 34 centimeters can be a decisive difference.
Triglav is now tall 2863 meters and no more 2864 m, as we learned in school, they showed new official measurements. Its exact height is now 2863 meters and 65 centimeters, she disclosed Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Slovenia. Accurate measurement made it possible to switch to a new system of geodetic measurement, which takes place as part of the project Updating the spatial data infrastructure to reduce the risks of flood consequences.
New official height Slovenian father, where they harvest every year the trunks of the mountaineers, thus has a new officially measured height. At the same time, it should be added that the height of the mountains is rounded to the meter. It used to be the official height 2863.99 m. By considering the new the geoid (the actual shapes of the Earth) - this one is incomparably better than the one from 2000 - we are him took away 34 centimeters, which is equal to two stairs. New height system has a new starting point in Koper and no more in Trieste. This one is 17 centimeters higher, which will affect the determination of all heights in Slovenia.

It is a new geoid much more accurate than the old one, in which there were errors of up to 20 centimeters, but inside the new one there will be only these between 5 and 10 cm. With this, they will be able to determine anew hydrographic network, and what is zero difference for Triglav can be an important difference when it comes to people, because enables better assessments of damage potential.
