TV series for everyone who is sure you've seen them all

In 2020, it seems like we've looked at just about everything we could, with more than enough free time due to social isolation. Many of you have probably watched all the "classics" for which there was no time before, and you may think that the streaming content has been exhausted. That's why we've looked for some that you may have overlooked and are definitely worth checking out.

Insecure (2016– )

The dramatic comedy won critical acclaim, and Issa Rae received two Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy nomination for lead actress. The plot follows a young woman, a fictional version of Issae Rae herself, and her everyday life, in which she encounters many unpleasant situations, prejudices and her relationship with her friends and partner. Vanity Fair (2018)

The television adaptation of the classic added spice to the story, which takes place during the Napoleonic Wars and follows Becky Sharp as she tries to escape poverty and succeed in English high society. And for this she is ready to do literally anything. The series is ideal for those who have just watched Bridgerton and want more of the same aesthetic and dramatic plot. Pose (2018– )

The series takes us to the 80s and 90s of the last century, to the subculture of New York at that time. The series brought together the largest number of LGBT actors ever in a single project and focused on the lives of members of the LGBTQ+ community at the time. At the same time, it follows the development of several phenomena, including insane enrichment, the creation of an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor, and the development of the dance scene. Broad City (2014–2019)

The American sitcom series Broad City ended in 2019, and many consider this story to be one of the best series of the last decade. She was once a big surprise among sitcoms, and Amy Poehler was also involved in the production. Broad City follows two friends in their twenties who live in New York. We follow them through their completely bizarre life situations, drunkenness, jobs and interpersonal relationships in the big city.

Undone (2019– )

Something completely different is the animated series Undone about 27-year-old Alma, who, after a car accident she barely survived, reveals a new relationship with time. Using her newfound ability to uncover the truth about her father's death, she must also confront her past. You can watch the series on Amazon Prime Video.

Top Boy (2011– )

Top Boy is a British organized crime series set in London and follows a boy growing up in a troubled neighborhood where he has to deal with crime and violence. He is trying to navigate all by himself in an environment that two dealers are trying to take over and control. You can watch the series on Netflix.

Times Square Tales (The Deuce, 2017-2019)

Before James Franco disappeared from Hollywood, he starred with Maggie Gyllenhaal in the excellent HBO series The Deuce. The American drama was released in 2017, and the plot is set in the 70s and 80s of the last century in New York. The series introduces us to the so-called golden age of pornographic films and the legalization of the porn industry, which will soon be worth a billion dollars. It examines the attitude of the government as well as police corruption and the use of opiates and drugs in those times. You can watch the series on HBO GO.

The Plot Against America (2020)

The unique mini-series Conspiracy Against America is a tense historical drama that shows us an alternative American history through the eyes of a Jewish family. We follow the political rise of the xenophobic Charles Lindbergh, who becomes president in their reality and turns the country in a fascist direction. You can watch the series on HBO GO.

Criminal: UK (2019– )

The story has a unique concept and each episode follows a different crime case. The event takes place in just two rooms - the interrogation room and the observation room, where other members of the police can watch the interview. Interrogations move from the UK to Spain, France and Germany, and we also follow intense police clashes and detectives who have to engage in real little psychological games in order to get the answers that will finally solve the mysterious cases. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017– )

The series is the story of Miriam Midge Maisel, a housewife of a classic Jewish family living in New York in 1958. Her husband Joel is a successful businessman who performs as a stand up comedian at night. Although Midge fully supports his clandestine, nocturnal career, her first disappointment comes when she realizes that he stole her draft for his act. Another disappointment comes when Joel admits to her that he is having an affair. Midge finds solace in alcohol and ends up in a stand-up club, where she receives a standing ovation from the audience for her unexpected and brutally honest performance. After being arrested and released from prison, Midge bonds with Susie and resumes performing. You can watch the series on Amazon Prime Video.
