Why do the words "based on true events/stories" add a whole new level to the film? Why are we so much more attracted to them? Well, let's see which films in 2015 are based on or inspired by real stories and are still waiting for their official premiere. There is sure to be something for every taste in the varied range of stories.
1. The Stanford Prison Experiment (July, 2015)
The tense drama is about a psychological experiment by Dr. Philip Zimbardo in 1971, where he tested people's behavior in situations where they can use their power. Michael Angarano, Ezra Miller and Tye Sheridan star as volunteers who agree to an experiment set up in a fake prison, little do they know it will change them forever.
2. The End of the Tour (July 2015)
Jason Segel ventures into more serious acting waters by playing writer David Foster Wallace. In the biography of the author, known for his novel Infinite Jest (Brezkončna burka, 1996), we follow his struggle with depression, which led to his suicide in 2008.
3. Straight Outta Compton (August 2015)
Rap group NWA takes center stage in Straight Outta Compton, the film named after the band's 1988 hit. Original band members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are the producers of the movie, so let's hope the movie is actually real.
4. Pawn Sacrifice (September, 2015)
Toby Maguire takes on the role of chess genius Bobby Fischer in his biopic. The film focuses on a chess match with the Russian player Boris Spassky in 1972, played by Liev Schreiber. The duel attracted the attention of the world public and the pressure on Fischer was enormous. Only 17 years later, he was able to play a rematch with Spassky.
5. Black Mass (September 2015)
Johnny Depp (and his creepy blue contact lenses) will play Whitey Bulger, one of the most notorious mob bosses in this crime biopic. After becoming an influential figure in the Boston crime scene in the sixties, he completely "turned the tables" in 1975 and became an informant for the FBI. He then fled for 16 years and was arrested only in 2011. He is currently in prison in Florida, where he has been found guilty of extortion, money laundering and arms trafficking.
6. Everest (September, 2015)
The film Everest is based on the book Into Thin Air, written by Jon Krakauer, a survivor of the 1996 mountain accident that claimed the lives of eight climbers. Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke play the leaders of two different expeditions caught in a deadly blizzard.

7. Legend (October 2015)
Tom Hardy plays twins Ronald and Reginald Kray, infamous English gangsters. Although they were known to the public primarily as nightclub owners, they were actually the leaders of organized crime throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Ronnie was openly bisexual and even allegedly slept with his psychopathic admirer.
8. The Walk (October 2015)
If we have seen the documentary Man on Wire (Clovek na zici, 2008), then we are already familiar with the story of Philippe Petit - the French wire artist who achieved world fame by walking between the twin towers of the WTC in New York in 1974. Although the entire feat was illegal, all charges against Philippe were dismissed, and in exchange he put on a show for children in Central Park, New York.
9. Bridge of Spies (October 2015)
Steven Spielberg directed the drama, based on the story of an ordinary lawyer, who is sent to negotiate the release of an American prisoner during the Cold War. Tom Hanks shines in the main role.
10. Suffragette (October 2015)
This political drama focuses on the women's suffragette movement in the late 19th century. Carey Mulligan plays the main character, a young political activist. While her character isn't based on anyone in particular, Merly Streep plays Emmeline Pankhurst, the leader of the movement. She founded a group, spent time in prison for assaulting a policeman, and played a major role in the Representation of the People Act of 1918, which reformed the electoral system. She died a few weeks before the suffrage for women over 21 was confirmed.
11. In the Heart of the Sea (December 2015)
We may have heard the story about the giant whale that sank a ship in 1820. This movie is based on a book that was written based on a true story by Herman Melville. Chris Hemsworth plays First Officer Owen Chase, whose ship heads toward a giant whale… and crashes. Only eight sailors survived the sinking of the ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
12. The Revenant (December 2015)
This time, Alejandro González Iñárritu decided to make a western based on the novel by Michael Punka. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Hugh Glass, a 19th-century fur trapper whose team decides to let him die while being attacked by a bear. But Hugh survives and decides to take revenge on his old friends.
13. Joy (December 2015)
Director David O. Russell has decided to team up Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper for a biopic about Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop household appliance. A single mother of three somehow tried to combine both work and studies and in 1990 she invented the Miracle Mop. Her business plan took off when she started regularly selling her product on the TV channel QVC and within a few years she became a millionaire.
