Urban urban sculptures made of wood

James Mcnabb, a designer from Philadelphia is a master of wood sculptures and details. His latest work "The City Series" presents a journey from the small towns of the surrounding areas to the big cities and depicts the external aspect of the urban landscape. The detailed sculptures are made from scrap wood and interpret the creation of something from nothing.

It uses different types of wood, cherry, oak, maple and ash. Each building shown is unique and unrepeatable, just like the city itself. Three motifs, which make up the series, show the author's perception of the city and the perspective of an "outsider" who enters the city from a rural suburb in search of happiness, fame and freedom. Every work from the said series is handwork. He and his wife run a design studio where they combine artistic craft and family heritage quality products.

City Sphere the sculpture depicts the expansion of cities and their conquest of planets. City Wheels is inspired by the point wagon and the author's journey from the suburbs to the city. While City Table it shows the city turned upside down and evokes a sense of transition from the middle all the way to the urban jungle. The size of City Sphere is 70x70x70 centimeters and can be purchased on the website Robert Fontaine Gallery

An even bigger wooden city is in the making, and the whole project is financed through Kickstarter.
