Vaseline & cornstarch?! At a time when beauty shelves are bombarding us with serums that have names longer than the average Spanish prince and cost more than a weekend at the beach, the internet has once again remembered the magic of basics. We're not talking about sunrise yoga or drinking warm water with lemon, but about a combination you can find in the drugstore and in the kitchen: Vaseline and cornstarch. Sound like a recipe for a child's mess? Exactly - except this time we're applying it to our face.

The Internet has its own logic: anything that is simple, cheap, and at least somewhat reminiscent of “natural” quickly gains miraculous status. beauty hack. And let's face it – we all want to look fresh without selling a kidney for an expensive serum. Now comes the unexpected: Vaseline & cornstarch

Of course, a mixture of Vaseline and starch won't take you back to high school (unless that pimple on your forehead is one of them), but it can make your skin softer, more moisturized, and a little more radiant.

What's in this "Botox" mask? Vaseline & cornstarch

Vaseline – moisture keeper
Petrolatum is an old acquaintance of the home pharmacy. It creates a protective film on the skin, preventing it from drying out and protecting it from external influences. It is really oily as a piece of pizza at three in the morning, but this very property makes it ideal for nighttime care of dry skin.

Cornstarch – gentle matte filter
Starch absorbs excess oil, calms redness, and gives the skin a more matte appearance. It's also often used in natural cosmetics as a mild exfoliant. If Vaseline is the heavy artillery, starch is its diplomatic advisor, making sure things don't get too greasy.

Together, they create a homemade overnight mask that moisturizes, softens, and restores an even tone to your skin - without the feeling of having pulled PVC foil over your face.

What does it actually do for the skin?

  1. Moisturizes without overloading
The petroleum jelly traps moisture, while the starch prevents you from looking like a baked donut. The result: soft, fresh skin.
  2. Improves texture
The starch removes dead cells, while the Vaseline provides smoothness. This is not a “photoshop” filter, but more of a “sleep in the fresh air”.
  3. A friend of oily skin
Surprisingly, this combination also benefits oily skin types: the starch absorbs shine, while the Vaseline moisturizes it nonetheless.

Make security sexy: test first

Even though these are basic ingredients, that doesn’t mean they’ll be suitable for every skin type. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, do a “patch test”: apply a little of the mixture to your wrist and wait 24 hours. It’s better than having to google “how to hide an allergy with concealer” the next morning.

Beauty without illusions

This DIY mask can be a great addition, especially in the winter months, when your skin is drier than the humor in a Monday meeting. But it doesn't promise miracles. Wrinkles won't magically disappear - but they will look less pronounced. Which is actually a good thing: our faces tell stories, and who wants to erase the best chapter?

This is a trick you can try today. And if nothing else, your bathroom will smell like your childhood and your kitchen at the same time.
