Ingredients

  • 260 g plain wheat flour
  • 35 g sugar
  • 4 g dry yeast
  • 2 g of salt
  • 150 ml lukewarm water
  • 35 ml vegetable oil
  • oil for frying

Directions

  1. Dough preparation: In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, dry yeast and salt. Add lukewarm water and vegetable oil. Knead to a soft, smooth dough that does not stick to your fingers. If necessary, add a little flour or water to get the right texture. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until it has doubled in size.
  2. Forming the doughnuts: After rising, gently knead the dough and roll it out to a thickness of about 1 cm. Using a glass or cookie cutter, cut out circles. If you want traditional doughnuts with a hole, use a smaller cookie cutter for the center. Place the shaped doughnuts on a floured surface and cover them. Let them rest for another 15 minutes.
  3. Frying the doughnuts: Heat the oil in a deep frying pan. Carefully place the doughnuts in the oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Place the doughnuts on paper towels to remove excess oil. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or coat with vegan chocolate. You can garnish with ground nuts or coconut if desired.

Hint

If you want lighter vegan donuts, let the dough rise a little longer. Make sure the oil is not too hot, as the donuts will brown too quickly on the outside and remain raw on the inside.
