A weekend getaway is perfect for indulging in cultural, culinary, historical, trendy, shopping and entertainment flavors. The basic means of transportation in Vienna is the subway, which takes you to the other end of the city in 20 minutes.
You can choose a 24- or 72-hour ticket, for which you will pay five or twelve euros. For those who will spend two or three days in the city, the best choice is the Vienna card. If you choose Vienna a la carte, for 16.90 euros you will get a 72-hour ticket for the subway, trams and city buses, as well as discounts in two hundred of the most interesting museums, galleries, cafes and restaurants, shops, operas and other clubs . The campsite in the east of the city occupies more than 100,000 square meters of green space and offers a place for those who like to travel with a camper or trailer. The campsite in the southern part was renovated in 2004, but if you are looking for a compromise between nature and shopping frenzy, the Neue Donau campsite is perfect. BETWEEN THE ILLUMINATED SIGNS AND THE OFFER
The core of the city is made for those who enjoy a walk through the crowded streets, where you are besieged from all sides by large shop windows, shiny signs and cafes and pastry shops that invite you to have a piece of saher cake and delicious coffee. We recommend a city break at Café Atelier, Café Sperl or Café Central, and for gourmets Kurkonditorei Oberlaa in the very center of the city. Most streets are full of shops offering outstanding traditional or surprising trendy products. Here you can find everything in one, from world-famous department stores and brands to local specialties, such as the Sacher cake, which is also wrapped at the Sacher Hotel to take home. Helmut Lang's store found its place among the pastry shops and cafes. The biggest shopping street in the city is undoubtedly Mariahilfer Strasse, which is a real fetish for lovers of spending. On one street we find three H & M stores, four Stiefelkönig stores and at least seven boutiques with recognized denim brands such as Diesel, Miss Sixty and others. Its new features are two bars, the futuristic and modernist A1 Lounge and the casually elegant Lutz. A similar paradise is Kartnerstrasse, which, in addition to shops and boutiques, also offers animation - every twenty meters street artists, mimes, magicians, jugglers or unsuccessful but talented musicians who earn their daily bread on the streets with music show their skills.
ON THE WIENER SCHNITZEL
All kinds of culinary pleasures are catered for in Vienna, as here you can choose from almost every cuisine in the world. The city is home to more than a hundred Chinese restaurants, flooded with fast food chains, small sandwich bars, and a host of restaurants offering their venerable Wiener Schnitzel. You can get the proven best in the city at Fiegelmüller in the city center, and for elegant, chic and romantic dinners we recommend the Cantina in the House of Music and the Basteirbar in the Palais Coburg. The first with attractive Mediterranean dishes and a view of St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the second in red leather and with an exceptional range of wines. On Saturdays, a visit to the city's Naschmarkt market is a must, where you can treat yourself to a truly excellent kebab. On Saturdays, the Naschmarkt is the heart of the city's hustle and bustle, and there is also a flea market in the immediate vicinity, where you can find a good idea for an original souvenir.
RELEASE FOR THE EARS
Electronic music DJs are a part of the city, just as the State Opera is an indispensable part of it. Trendy clubs, new galleries, modern architecture and stylish shops belong here in equal measure with old concert halls, huge museums, remarkable historical buildings and nostalgic shops. Musical life in Vienna is very rich. For fans of the chill out and clubbing scene, we recommend a visit to Kaleidoscope near the Naschmarkt. Kaleidoscope surrounds many galleries, in which art and electronic sounds of historical groove intertwine. In the fourth district we find the Piranha Bar, owned by the famous local artist Manfred Schulderbacher. Here you can enjoy the retro laid back lounge atmosphere, and on these cultural Mondays you can find the company of artists and cultural workers. In the summer, the most exciting is probably the Icke Micke Club near the Praterstern, where you can experience an authentic Berlin vibe in the heart of Vienna, created by unforgettable Friday parties and sonorous Berlin slang. Combined music and culture are expressed in musicals and dance performances that take place in the Volksopera, Raimund Theater or Kosmos Theater. For jazz lovers, we highlight the oldest and newest jazz clubs, Jazzland and Birdland.
MUST-SIGHTS
You can't miss the classic sights in Vienna. Schönbrunn is a common name for parks and gardens, extensive walking paths and cultural and historical buildings (palace, monuments...). The Prater covers an area of six million square meters, where everyone who likes to run, rollerblade, cycle, walk or just lie on the grass can find their joy and peace. There is also a small amusement park, famous for its famous bicycle, often declared the most romantic spot in the city. Donauinsel and Donauturm should also be highlighted. The Donauinsel is an elongated island in the middle of the Danube, which you can visit on your city walk, and you can end your exploration of the city streets at the Donaturm, the Danube Tower, where you can drink coffee and see the city from all angles at the top in a circular café that slowly rotates angles. With its height of 352 meters, it is also considered to be the highest jumping point for bungee jumping in the world. The Kunsthaus of the artist Hundertwasser and the Gothic Cathedral of St. Stefan.
