On February 23, an exceptional guest performance will take place on the stage of the Gallus hall of Cankarjev dom. Directed by Brett Bailey, a world-renowned South African director, the Third World Bunfight Performing Company from the Republic of South Africa will present a shocking performance of Macbeth.
2016 is the year 400th death anniversary the great English poet and playwright William Shakespeare. In Cankarjev dom, the anniversary will also be celebrated on February 23, when the play Macbeth performed by a visiting theater will take place on the stage of the Gallus hall. The story of the power-hungry Macbeth and his even more power-hungry wife is told in this radical version by the world-famous director Brett Bailey takes place on the slopes of the Great Lakes in Central Africa, where fierce battles take place between African clans for supremacy over diamond mines. Famous Verdi's opera about longing for power, tyranny and witches is transferred to the black continent so shockingly and at the same time convincingly that the viewer wonders whether Macbeth was not originally written for African soil and Shakespeare experienced the savannahs of Central Africa first hand. Of course, this is helped by the excellent singers and actors, as well as director Brett Bailey. The performances of the latter have toured almost all continents, and critics often call him "our African Rimbaud". Namely, his "specialty" is great European stories, which he masterfully transfers to African soil, which he did, among other things, in his plays Medea, Macbeth and Orpheus.
