Twelve wines participated in this year's 18th edition of the charity auction. Cabernet Sauvignon and red cuvee attracted the most interest. The auction proceeds amounted to 19,125 euros, which Vinakoper donated to the pediatric department of the Izola General Hospital.
The charity auction of barriques has been held in the cellar since 1998. This year, too, buyers competed for 12 barrique barrels of the current year. They were offered a barrel of shiraz, cabernet franc, chardonnay and red cuvee, as well as two barrels each of malvasia, refosc, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. The asking price for a liter of wine from a 225-liter barrel was 12 euros.
As many as 23 bidders competed for their barrel this year. They were most attracted by the barrel of cabernet sauvignon from Debeli rtic and the barrel in which the red variety from Debeli rtic and Purissima ripens. The tasting of selected wines was led by the winery's chief oenologist Boštjan Zidar, while Mitja Meršol encouraged the auctioneers to donate to charity.
After the end of the auction, the president of Vinakoper Nevija Pucer also invited Franc Jezeršek from the House of Culinary Jezeršek, who has participated in every auction so far and bought 22 barrels in all these years, to hand over a symbolic check. Together, they handed over the check to dr. Irena Cetin Lovšin, doctor at the pediatric department of the Izola General Hospital.
