At the end of October, a violin played by the leader of the musical orchestra on the Titanic passenger ship was sold at an auction in London for $1.7 million.
Until now, this was the largest sum paid for a souvenir associated with the said sunken passenger ship.
All those who survived one of the most high-profile accidents of that time testified that the musicians played until the end. Group Director, Wallace Hartley, he decided to do this for the sake of the passengers, as he wanted to calm down the panic attack. Survivors say it was the last song played on board the ship "Nearer, my God to Thee". Wallace Hartley's body has been found May 4, 1912. Then his violin got lost and was found in 2006 in the attic of a British house, since October it has been in the possession of an unknown collector of art and antiques.
