Volvo 40.1 and 40.2: "teasers" of the XC40 and V40 models

Volvo 40.1 and 40.2

The Volvo 40.1 and 40.2 concepts are "teasers" for the upcoming XC40 and V40 models, which will grow on the new CMA platform, developed with the cooperation of the Swedes and the Chinese. Their direct competitors will be Audi Q2 and Q3, Mercedes GLA and Volkswagen Golf. The boxy days of Volvo are clearly over.

Volvo presented two bold concepts 40.1 and 40.2, which announce the arrival of new models XC40 and V40 and a new range of premium small cars. They were created on a new Volvo CMA modular platform (Compact Modular Architecture or compact modular platform), which Volvo engineers developed together with the Chinese, more precisely to companies Geely, who is their owner, namely for the needs of small vehicles. Both concepts belong to the 40 "club".

The Volvo 40.1 has a hybrid drive which 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine with 180 hp (132 kW) combines with a 55-kilowatt electric motor with 9.7kWh battery. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. If we only drive on electricity, the battery provides 50-kilometer range, and can be recognized in the headlights of the vehicle Thor's hammer. From the concept will grow the serial XC40, which we can expect in 2017. The successor of the V40 model, whose concrete outlines can already be seen in the 40.2 concept, will also grow from the same platform (CMA) - otherwise the vehicle is from a different generation. Hatchback driven by an electric motor, which squeezes out of itself up to one charge 350 kilometers. We can expect the new Volvo V40 in 2018.
