We debunk 5 myths about adequate hydration

Summer and heat go hand in hand. Which greatly affects our well-being, because in the summer the water literally evaporates from us. So let's be careful not to fall for myths about hydration and take care of our psychophysical excellence!

Water is vital for the proper functioning of our body. It helps in all the main metabolic processes, in controlling the appropriate temperature, eliminating toxins and maintaining appropriate blood pressure. When and how to hydrate properly, see below.

Myth #1: Drink 8 glasses of water a day

People are different and we live in different environments. Sufficient amount of water per day therefore depends on climatic conditions, type of clothing and physical activity. So the most important thing is to follow your own feeling of thirst, but if that doesn't work out well, just reach for at least eight glasses a day.

Myth #2: We only drink when we are thirsty

Thirst can be a sign of dehydration, but this is not always the case. Physical activity sometimes drives away the feeling of thirst, so be careful and pour yourself a large glass of cold water even when you are not excessively thirsty.

Myth #3: The best drink during exercise is a sports drink

Let's replace sports drinks with water and a snack. During physical activity, we treat the body to a sufficient amount of water, and after exercise, we replace the lost electrolytes and sodium with a snack with a high content of vitamins and minerals. Banana, orange and unsalted nuts will be the right choice.

Myth #4: You can never drink too much water

We can easily see rumors in the media that drinking extra water makes our skin look better, helps us sleep better and improves our general well-being. In any case, we should make sure that we drink enough water every day, as it really has a positive effect on our well-being and appearance, but unfortunately there is no scientific evidence of the positive effects of excessive watering of the body with water.

Myth #5: Healthy urine is as clean as water

Dark urine definitely signals that our body is asking for an extra glass of water. But let's not exaggerate, healthy urine is the color of refreshing lemonade. So in the summer we check the color several times and drink a glass more if we don't like it too much. It would be healthiest to go to the toilet every two hours.
