When an audio component is added to clothing

Mary Katrantzou

'The Sound of Clothes' is an audio project, a multidisciplinary installation by Nick Knight and his studio SHOW, which was created as an exploration of sound possibilities in relation to fashion.

The project, which he has been researching since 2006, continued during the last London Fashion Week when he visited the studios of fashion designers By Mary Katrantzou, Sibling, Piers Atkinson and Matthew Williamson, while they were preparing spring summer collections 2014.

Sounds recorded in the studio Mary Katrantzou, during the creation of the collection (cutting materials, cutting paper patterns, walking around the studio, sewing,...) were included in the 'audio recording', which is actually the sound of her new collection. The sounds were post-edited by sound artist, Stu Sibley, to create a fresh recording that blurs the lines between art and design. The visualization is accompanied by abstract elements and colors taken from the catwalk.
