When musicians hate their songs (but we think they're works of art)

When musicians record their tracks they are slaves and make sure everything is perfect before unleashing their gift on the crowd. We're sure they love what they've created. Well, that's not always the case. Here are 11 examples of songs where artists have admitted they don't like their songs, despite (or because of) them being their biggest hits.

1. RADIOHEAD – CREEP

Where else to start than with one of the most famous examples. Creep is a song from the first album Pablo Honey of the Radiohead group, which earned it a large number of fans around the world. Unfortunately, Radiohead are anything but fans of their song, "shit", as they called it, and regret ever recording an alternative version for radio. They haven't played the hit at concerts for many years. When a member of the audience asked for it, the band responded succinctly: "Fuck off, we're tired of it."

2. LORDS – ROYALS

Lorde's debut and smash hit, Royals, is barely a year old and the singer doesn't like him anymore. In an interview, she said that after listening to various versions and covers, she realizes that the song is actually terrible. According to her, it should sound like a Nokia ringtone. She says that she was lucky that her version was accepted, because it is by far the most that could be done from this song.

3. REM – SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE

Legend has it that the band was at the time of the album's release Out Of Time forced (at the behest of Warners) to record a happy song. And they wrote Shiny Happy People, but of course they rejected it themselves. They didn't even add it to their compilation In Time, which contains the greatest hits. But fans still think the song is brilliant. The video is ridiculous.

4. PULP – COMMON PEOPLE

When the band's drummer, Nick Banks, first heard Common People - the song that was their biggest and most famous hit and defined an entire era of the British music industry – thought that "nema is a funeral song" and that Jarvis' original demo was a pile of rubbish. Fortunately, together with the producer Chris Thomas and the other members of the band, they developed the song and the drummer began to appreciate it as "a slightly better version of the previous one".

5. BEASTIE BOYS – FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY

On the album The Sound of Science, which contains their biggest hits, they wrote that the song sucks. This is no doubt also due to the misinterpretation of the song, saying that the song glorifies hooligans, when the song was meant to satire to their behavior.

6. LED ZEPPELIN – STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

Singer Robert Plant said in 1988 that it would end badly if he had to sing this song at every concert. He wrote the lyrics himself and the song meant something in 1971, it's not the same 17 years later. He also described her as "damn wedding song". Rumor has it that his hostile feelings towards Stairway To Heaven are also a result (too) long guitar solos Jimmy Page in the final part of the song.

7. COLDPLAY – SPEED OF SOUND

The band admitted that they tried to emulate Kate Bush and her Running Up To Hill but didn't really succeed, Chris Martin said it was one of his least favorite songs; that's probably why they never play concerts.

8. SIMPLE MINDS – (DON'T YOU) FORGET ABOUT ME

The song was not written by the band (it was written by producers Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff), but it became a huge hit thanks to its use in the film (The Breakfast Club) and one more that the group hated. Before Simple Minds, they offered implementation The Fixx, To Bryan Ferry and To Billy Idol, but they all rejected her. Even though they themselves were well on their way to avoid execution, the label forced them. Despite this, the band excluded her from the next album and turned their backs on her.

9. QUEEN – DON'T STOP ME NOW

Almost the most important song by Queen. Brian May however, he is not a fan, as he believes that the song glorifies the hedonistic and risky lifestyle he leads Freddie Mercury lived then. Most of the songs, May does not participate, except of course where he probably couldn't resist - the guitar solo.

10. THE SMITHS – WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

One of their most recognizable songs, but yeah Morrisey he hates. What Difference Does It Make? appeared on the album The Smiths. Morrisey has stated that it is one of his least favorite songs due to the lyrics, which he finds light and slightly uncomfortable.

11. FRANK SINATRA – STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT

Sinatra described the ballad as "crap" and "the worst song he ever heard". But since it was one of the biggest hits, he also had to perform it several times live, albeit with gritted teeth. During at least one performance, he was seen muttering amid applause: "I hate this song." Always professional Frank.
