Where to go for New Year's Eve?

Where to spend the New Year's Eve is certainly one of the more frequent questions in December, which makes many people feel bad, especially if the plans for New Year's Eve are still shrouded in darkness. But New Year's Eve doesn't have to be an all-inclusive weekend package somewhere warm or a traditional detour...

Where to spend the New Year's Eve is certainly one of the most common questions in December, which makes many people feel bad, especially if the plans for New Year's Eve are still shrouded in darkness. But New Year's Eve is not necessary all inclusive a weekend package somewhere warm or a traditional tour of Eastern European capitals and a New Year's Eve party in a nearby town square. There are many cheap and very cute destinations and ways to spend New Year's Eve - some can be done in an hour, others will take at least a day or so to organize. We have prepared some ideas for where to spend New Year's Eve.

High above the cities

For those of you who dream of celebrating the New Year in a true winter idyll somewhere above the city, there are plenty of choices in all directions - both for a few days' rest in a wooden cabin and for a New Year's Eve torchlight hike. Every year, Velika planina is very popular among mountain and hill lovers, where on New Year's Eve you can go on foot in the light of torches and lamps, and at the same time, every year on December 31, a gondola also runs. It may not be too late to rent a wooden cabin, but otherwise there are homes open on New Year's Eve on Velika planina, where you can wait for midnight. The torchlight walk is also popular on Šmarna Gora, where quite a large number of people usually gather, as the view of the capital in the light of fireworks is wonderful. For those who don't mind a little more walking, they can spend the New Year in the Bohinj area, where Dom na Komna and Koča pod Bogatin, among others, will be open on December 31. Here, as the mountaineers say, the New Year's atmosphere is guaranteed. If we are planning to stay overnight, we must not forget Vogel, where this year's ski season they are preparing a rich animation program, competitions and entertainment, so that there will be no boredom, and in the morning, if we are early enough, we can not miss the skiing after the first snow. This will not be in Kredarica, where we still have the opportunity to experience the New Year at its highest here. However, before deciding on this route, it is important to inquire about the conditions, as winter conditions are often quite dangerous and in this case it is wiser to visit one of the lower hills. A New Year's torchlight procession is also being prepared to the 631-meter-high Rašica. The starting point is in Gameljne, and participants will have to walk for two hours. You can also enjoy New Year's Eve above the city in Maribor's Pohorje, and every year there is also fun at Kopa. Some people do not like mountains and mountain huts full of people and prefer to experience the New Year more calmly, but in a special way. For such people, any hill in the area, to which there are no organized New Year's trips, will be a real experience, and all we need is suitable winter equipment and a torch or some other light source.

 Are you into sports?

An interesting experience is being prepared at Krvavac in Eskimska vas, for the third year in a row. They plan to go to the village on the last day of the year in the afternoon with snowshoes and torchlight. There will be fun sports games in the snow, an Eskimo New Year's Eve dinner and even a disco under the snow, where guests will be entertained by a DJ. They will also build an ice igloo, similar to the Swedish Ice Hotel, and guests will also sleep under the snow. You will have to judge for yourself how cold it is. The Eskimo village on Krvavac is not the only one of its kind in our country, as two years ago another one was built for the first time on Rogla, which is located near the cottage on Jurgov. It is not possible to sleep here, but New Year's Eve in an Eskimo bar is definitely a real experience. Two years ago, skiing enthusiasts could literally ride into the new year, as night skiing at Kopa was open until the 24th. Unfortunately, this kind of experience has been canceled and skiers can no longer ski in the New Year, so this year, runners will be able to do it for the 8th year in a row. They didn't ski, but ran. The Špic Ljubljana Sports Association is preparing a traditional run in the New Year. The course, which is not competitive in nature, will take place next to the Orlam forest, and all hikers are also welcome. But if we return to the snow, which we hope will be abundant in the New Year's days, we cannot pass up sledding. In recent years, many toboggan runs have appeared in our country, some of them also illuminated, so that you can experience night sledding in the light of torches or headlights. There are no restrictions for self-directed sledding, but for organized versions and lighted trails, it is best to inquire with the organizers or those who organize the toboggan runs. Most organized toboggan runs are located in the vicinity of Kranjska Gora, Bovec and Jezersko. As a novelty this season, evening sledding at the weekends was also introduced at Krvavac. In Kranjska Gora organized sledding is organized by the agency Julijana, in Jezersko they will help us with information at Raj Jezerska, and in Bovec the Avantura Sports Agency.

With music and culture in hand

Those who are not tempted by winter joys and New Year's Eve in the snow can always go to one of the Slovenian cities. It is true that the events in the main city squares have been lined up the same or similar for many years, but there are always hidden corners that offer more. In Ljubljana, classic entertainment programs will take place on Pogačarjev trg, Nové trg, Prešeren trg, French Revolution Square and Mestne trg. Culture lovers can watch Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker at Cankarjev dom on New Year's Eve at 7:00 p.m., as well as three other performances: Uncle Boonmee remembers, Semianyki/family and Poslednji termina(l)tor. On the last day of the year, the comedy Zbudi se, Katka will be shown in the Šentjakob Theater, the comedy Season of Ordered Murders in the Mengek Cultural Center, and Čefurji raus in the SiTi Theater. New Year's Eve in the club scene will take place in the KMŠ club, but if we are more into the alternative scene, we can wait for the new year at the Club evening in the Gala hall on Metelkova, where they promise a varied mix of current disco club productions. In the Styrian capital, things will be going on until five in the morning at Trg Svobode with Maria Masle and Los de Balkan. The Calegargia concert will take place on Titov trg in Koper, and in Kranj they will usher in the new year traditionally with a Viennese waltz and fireworks. In Slovenj Gradac, in addition to the Veritas ensemble, a New Year's Eve fire show and a neon show by the Čupakabra group are being prepared. If the above does not tempt you, perhaps the New Year's Eve offer, which this year is being prepared at the Kaja and Grom ranch in Vojnik, will be really special. On New Year's weekend

they promise a New Year's toast right on the embers. As they wrote in the presentation of this special way of New Year's Eve, on New Year's Eve, the participants will walk and dance on the fire carpet to the sound of drums.

 Jump over the border

Despite the small "budget" that we set aside for this year's New Year's Eve, we can also jump over the border to check how they are entering the new year there. Agencies offer a thousand and one possibilities for travel in European capitals, but if we do not have such an organization, we can also experience a lot of interesting things on our own, be it by car, bus or train. With the latter, Budapest is easily accessible, where various concerts take place on New Year's Eve in the three main squares - Vörösmarty Square will provide live music, Nyugati Square for pop-rock fun music, and the Oktogon area will be dedicated to disco music. The government has banned the throwing of firecrackers here, so New Year's Eve will be safer on the streets. Belgrade, Prague, Brno and Bratislava have also been popular party destinations for several years.

Wherever it takes you, let it be crazy, experienced, pleasant and beautiful, in the company of the right people. Just like the coming new year. Good luck!
