We could recommend almost every MacBook in Apple's arsenal, but there are significant differences between models, which means there's no one-size-fits-all option. At the end of last year, Apple released a new MacBook Air and a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a customized chip M1 based on ARM, which is also the company's first in-house SoC. It brought the chip to Apple's cheaper models tremendous improvement in performance and extended life.
What about the 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports and the premium 16-inch MacBook Pro? They are still "sentenced" to Intel processors, until Apple makes a proper chip for them (rumor has it they could run on a 12-core chip). Each of these laptops has its pros and cons, so it's important to know which one is best for your needs before spending your hard-earned money (Apple products aren't cheap!).

What is the best MacBook for 2021?
From underpowered to one of the fastest ultrathin laptops out there, it's new MacBook Air with M1 the best MacBook for most people. The well-known design has been upgraded with enviable performance and all-day battery life. Along with increasing speed and endurance, the new M1 chip also brings iOS and iPadOS apps to the MacBook for the first time ever. With the M1, there's almost no reason to skip the MacBook Air.
If you need even better performance, you may want to opt for MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Where the MacBook Air is fanless, the MacBook Pro has a traditional cooling system, so you can run demanding programs for hours without worrying about overheating. Most people will be satisfied with Air, but users whose computer work requires "muscles" should consider Pro. Like the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro has incredibly fast SSD and it runs on Apple's wonderful new operating system Big Sur.
What about MacBooks with Intel processors that haven't been updated to the M1 yet? Well, we shouldn't exactly ignore them. If you need an extra pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports, the company still sells the top-tier model with four Thunderbolt 3 inputs. This one runs on Intel chips that don't have the same performance or endurance as the M1 CPU.
Then there's more 16-inch MacBook Pro. This “monster”, which was once the most powerful of the group, does not look so powerful anymore since the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro got such an update. But that doesn't mean it's not a good laptop. It has a great 16-inch screen, amazing speakers and a state-of-the-art design. And despite running on Intel, battery life is excellent.
Our advice? If you need a laptop right now, choose a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with M1. If you can wait and need more power or inputs, give Apple a few months to release new versions of the 16-inch MacBook Pro and potentially a new 13-inch or 14-inch MacBook Pro with M1 chips and additional Thunderbolt ports.
