Which type of vacation is the cheapest in 2024

1. Travel with an agency

Agency vacations are often a good choice, especially if we choose first minute offers. Trips to Turkey, Greece and Croatia are among the most popular. Prices for an 8-day arrangement in Turkey are around 895 EUR per person, which includes plane tickets, accommodation and often some meals and excursions. Assuming a 10-day trip, this could cost around €1,120 per person.

2. Roadtrip and camping

Although road trips and camping are often considered cheaper options, the cost of fuel, tolls and equipment rental if you don't already have it at home must be considered. Camping can be extremely cheap if you find a good location and have your own equipment. Costs range from €10 to €30 per night for camping, while food and transport costs depend on the length of the journey and destination. For a 10-day camping trip, the cost would be around 300 EUR per person, if we consider the minimum camping price and add the cost of fuel and food if four people travel.

3. Hotels and apartments

Classic hotel accommodation and renting an apartment have very different prices. In popular destinations such as the Greek islands or the Croatian coast, hotel prices are quite high, especially in high season. The average price of a hotel room per night in Greece is around 100 EUR, while an apartment can be rented for as little as 50 EUR per night. A ten-day stay in a hotel would cost around EUR 1,000 per person, while a ten-day apartment rental for four people would cost around EUR 250 per person.

4. RV trip

RV tourism is becoming increasingly popular as it offers freedom and flexibility. The cost of renting a motor home varies from 100 to 200 EUR per day, depending on the size and season. When you add fuel and camping costs, you can quickly go over budget, but in the long run, the depreciation of the motorhome can be cost-effective if it is used several times a year. For a 10-day motorhome trip, the cost could be around EUR 375 per person, considering the motorhome rental for EUR 150 per day, plus fuel and camping costs, for four people.

5. Nautical

Renting a sailboat or yacht is a luxury option that comes with high costs. Rental prices start at around EUR 1,500 per week for a smaller yacht and can reach tens of thousands of euros for larger yachts. Although nautical is expensive, it offers a unique experience of exploring coastal towns and islands that is unrepeatable. A ten-day yacht charter would cost approximately EUR 536 per person, if we consider the rental price of EUR 1,500 per week for four people.

Although Croatia is traditionally a popular destination for Slovenians, prices have risen considerably this year. Therefore, it is recommended to consider other destinations that are more affordable:

  • Greece: Greece offers many beautiful and affordable destinations, such as the islands of Kefalonia, Lefkada and Kos. Apartments in Greece can be quite affordable, especially if shared with family or friends.
  • Albania: Albania is becoming increasingly popular due to its beautiful beaches and low prices. Resorts in Durrës and Saranda offer affordable accommodation, meals and activities, making for a cheap and pleasant vacation.

Conclusion: The cheapest holiday of 2024

Based on the cost analysis, the cheapest choice for a vacation in 2024 is road trip and camping, as it offers the most flexibility and the lowest initial investment. It is followed by the rental of an apartment, which provides a comfortable stay for a moderate price. Travel with an agency can be advantageous when choosing first minute offers, while RV travel and sailing are more expensive, but offer unique experiences.
