A Nobel Prize-winning psychologist proved years ago which gender is more self-indulgent. Now this is confirmed by modern research, which used the infamous selfie as its basic methodology. And the result is more than surprising.
What we suspected for a long time is now official – they like men more than women. This was already proven by a Nobel Prize-winning psychologist. Thanks to the daily use of millions of smart devices, however, it has shown the same Huawei's summer barometer, a survey conducted by the company Ipsos.
Men love it innovative technology, devices and "gadgets". But they would never expect that the very devices they love so much would reveal their smugness. Huawei's summer barometer, a study of smartphone usage patterns among residents of Central and Northern Europe shows that men take 8 % more selfies like women.
"These are surprising data. We've known for years that it is photography generally a very important part of the application smartphones. Front cameras, which are used for video calls and selfies, are becoming more and more important. Sales data proves that a quality camera is very important before the purchasing decision of users. What is unexpected is the finding that more selfies are taken by men. It seems that they prefer to show themselves a little more than women, at least according to our data," he commented Matjaž Kermelj, sales director Huawei for Slovenia.
Selfies more popular among young people
Huawei's summer barometer also shows that more selfies are taking place among the younger population. However, not all users are the same - the data show that in Northern Europe a person is less likely to take selfies, namely more often in Southern countries - 84 percent of Bulgarians, 83 percent of Romanians, 82 percent of Serbians and 78 percent of Greeks. On the other hand, selfies are not so popular in Denmark, only 59 percent take them, in Sweden and Finland 62 percent.
"Smartphones have become so popular and multifunctional that their usage data reveals interesting information about society. Information that does not only have a technological weight, but can be important for fields such as social science," added Kermelj.
