In the hills with children: 3 top family hiking trails in Slovenia

Photo: envato

The vast majority of children are not very enthusiastic about visiting hills, but with the right motivation, even the biggest nerds will eagerly climb the slope. We offer you three wonderful hiking ideas that children should not miss.

Menina mountain

Time: A bad hour of walking with the kids
The plateau in the Kamnik-Svinjske Alps is a popular family hiking spot, as it is also accessible with buggies. The undemanding path that leads to the beautiful Menina planina winds through pastures, and its final destination offers wonderful views of the surroundings. Horses, sheep, cows and calves keep you company during the grazing season. Dom na Menina planina is open during the summer season, otherwise only on weekends, and there are also children's playgrounds nearby.

Saint James above the Vestibule

Time: Hour of walking with children
Sveti Jakob, which rises above the Preddvor Lake, is a popular hiking spot for locals, and more and more families from the surrounding area also visit it on Sunday trips. The starting point is the parking lot in the quarry next to Turn Castle, but you can also shorten the walk by parking in one of the higher parking lots. There are many paths leading to the top, so the crowds disappear even on weekends, and the path is suitable for children, but it is not too strenuous even for carrying little ones in a carrier or backpack. At the top, you will be greeted by the church of St. James with a bell and a beautiful view of Hudičev boršt and the surrounding areas.

Celebrant

Time: A good hour of walking with children
The highest peak of Primorska is a popular spot among visitors from far and wide. It rises 1,028 meters above sea level and thus offers a wonderful view of the neighboring places, as well as of Italy and Croatia. The otherwise undemanding path is a bit steep at some points, which may take you a bit more time in the company of little ones. You will be rewarded with a beautiful view and excellent food, which is boasted in Tum's cottage on Slavnik. In order not to be disappointed, it is only open on weekends, but during the week, don't forget to take enough snacks with you.
