With its innovative design, the Aero wooden wheel aims to discover new possibilities of composite wood, i.e. specially treated wood (a process of chemical modification of wood by introducing smaller molecules into the cell walls). It was created according to the idea of architects Atanas Zhelev, Mariya Korolova and Martina Hutzal, and saw the light of day at Milan Design Week 2015.
Wooden wheel Aero wants to reinvent the bicycle frame. He tackled this by making frames that are made from composite wood, and with this type of framework, the designers at Ma Studio discover alternative options for wooden structures. For the bike in question, the engineers created a manufacturing technique similar to the production of carbon fiber polymer composites.

The frame is made by application 0.9 mm wooden boards, which are glued into the desired shape, and the natural fibers of each of these panels are arranged in the direction of the force flowing inside the frame, which gives it additional strength. As a result, they also use less material for production, via complex geometries and achieve exceptional rigidity. Thanks to the wooden slats, the frame is also amazing light and flexible.
