From today until the end of April, the Jakopič Promenade in Ljubljana's Tivoli Park will once again be enriched with a new photography exhibition entitled "Nostalgia, The Journey Within", which reveals never-before-seen photos by author Deborah Beer from the filming of Andrei Tarkovsky's film masterpiece of the same name.
The world premiere of a photography exhibition "Nostalgia, The Journey Within" brings a journey through a collection of 100 photographs from the archive Cinemazero Images, discovering the soul of the Russian film poet. Captured moments of mystical fog, steam, deserted roads and intimate rooms offer a sharp look into the background of the story "Nostalgia" from 1983, which is considered "one of the most evocative works in the history of cinema".
Journalist Gideon Bachmann and his partner and author of the photos Deborah Beer have closely followed Tarkovsky's work throughout. Deborah thus immortalized the filming in Bagna Vignona and Rome, until the first screening in Cannes, where Nostalgia won Grand Prix du Cinéma de Création and a prize FIPRESCI. Bachmann conducted countless interviews with the cult director, and Deborah, interestingly, was never the official photographer on the set, but more or less the right hand of her husband, who then used her images to sell his articles to the most renowned newspapers. Thus, the photographs in the exhibition do not only show the behind-the-scenes of the film, but offer an insight into the entire system of the film world at that time.
