Ideas for new living solutions grow like mushrooms after the rain. And if there's a mushroom picker in you, you know that the picking is excellent this year. We don't know how it is with mushrooms in the USA, but we do know that they have set up a rather fancy housing unit in the famous Joshua Tree Park.
Joshua Tree Residence is a set cargo containers, placed in the shape of a flower, designed by an architectural office Whitaker Studio. It's actually their never-completed office project that they've now resurrected.
Containers, which usually form individual living units, are this time connected into a whole. Every one of them has glass surface that is facing like this, that through it natural light penetrates. They are containers painted white, to do so they struggle more easily with the scorching California sun and seem to blend in with the surroundings like a rock. 200 square meters a large complex of containers will offer residents the kitchen, the dining room, daily Saturday and as many as three bedrooms. The containers are united by a central terrace, on which there is a jacuzzi. The garage will be covered with solar panels, which will produce enough energy to live off the grid.
The house was designed by a Hollywood couple who fell in love with the landscape of the nature reserve Joshua Tree, and will use it as a holiday residence. This is also why we can hope that it will be possible to rent it on Airbnb, as many extravagant buildings of this kind can be.
Why do we actually speak in the future tense? Because they start construction next year.
