When was that? Quite a few generations probably cannot even know what we are talking about. The Internet or the Internet was created in 1983, when many of us were still in diapers. Those were completely different times, times when children's playgrounds were bursting at the seams, times when we had significantly less information at our disposal, and times when calling the US seemed like a project and a half. Are you curious about what we did back then?
A year ago 1983 our lives were a little different, our habits weren't quite like today's and the things on our shelves weren't quite the same as what we have today.
We have prepared for you a list of habits that were completely normal at the time, but now they could slowly be shown in museums.
1. Buying an encyclopedia
When we wanted to find out something new and learn something new, we had to open a dictionary, lexicon or encyclopedia.
2. Asking for directions
When we arrived in a new place, we had to ask local residents for the street or address, or press our noses into the map.
3. Agreed exact time
If we wanted to meet someone, we had to agree on a specific time. There were no phones to announce our arrival 3 minutes early.
4. Searching for music
When we heard that our favorite singer had released his album, quite a bit of water passed before we could get to the album. But if we were looking for something less popular, the search was even more time-consuming.
5. Reading books in libraries
If we wanted more information when studying or if we wanted to deepen our knowledge, we had to go to the library, where they had all kinds of materials available. People used to read there.
6. Writing on hands
We didn't type, we wrote. A fountain pen was in every pocket.
7. Change
We had change jingling in our pockets, as we needed it for the phone booth.
8. Calling friends
If we wanted to talk to a friend on the phone, we had to have a conversation with his/her parents first. Every family had a landline phone, which was usually answered by the parents first.
9. Checks
We also used checks for payment. Yes, checks.
10. Photographs
After we shot the film, we took it to the photo studio and had to wait a day or two for the photos to be developed. Then we furnished photo albums with them.
11. Waiting for a popular TV series
We waited impatiently for a popular series that only ran once a week, and if we missed it, there was no make-up exam. Spinning back? So what else!
12. Rotating phone numbers
When we called someone we rarely heard and didn't know the number by heart, we opened the booklet, looked for the number and rolled it or typed it.
13. Reading the news
At least once a day, we read the news from the newspaper, as it was the only media besides radio and television.
14. Playing outdoors
There was also a time when children and their parents spent the afternoons on the playgrounds, inventing new games and falling asleep tired in the evening.
15. Listening to messages
When we got home, we listened to the messages on the answering machine.
Those were other times.
