Regardless of whether we are going on a journey with a two-, three- or four-wheeler, our trip will be dedicated to exploring the vehicles and the adventures they offer. To learn as much as possible about them, let's start with their history.
Let's drive along the coastal highway and after a few kilometers turn towards Vrhnika, where the signposts will take us all the way to Bistra Castle, which has been the seat of the Technical Museum of Slovenia since 1951. The museum is open during the week, except Monday, from 8 am to 4 pm, on Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 6 pm. The most admirable is the transport department with some rare examples. Among them is the first tram that ran around Ljubljana around 1901 and is the oldest electric vehicle in Slovenia. The entrance fee, for which we will deduct 3.76 euros for adults and 2.92 euros for students, also includes a visit to the wood, hunting and forestry department. On the idyllic green of the castle park, all those who muster up the courage for a more serious "life adventure" can also decide to get married. But if it's not the right time for it yet, we can satisfy our curiosity by getting to know the museum's educational forest trail, which starts above the castle. The route is 2,300 m long, and the average detour takes about two hours. Along the way, there are information boards with imaginative caricatures and short text, and their purpose is to teach visitors about the forest, forestry and forest etiquette in a fun way. We still have a long day ahead of us, so we start the engines again and drive back to Vrhnika and along the old road to Brezovica, where the enticing smell of fried chicken, for which the inn Pr'Kopač is famous, invites us from the road. We will shell out 15 euros for a whole chicken and delicious bites of white, crispy meat, treat ourselves to dessert and set off for a new kilometer with a satisfied stomach.
Afternoon bend
We "turn" again along the highway, but this time in the opposite direction, towards Štajerska. In the very heart of Slovenia, at the exit for Vrana, we turn into a settlement that rests in a calm green valley, and after just one kilometer we arrive at its square. Legend has it that there was once a lake in this place where thousands of crows lived. After the lake dried up, a settlement grew up in this place, which was named after these swamp dwellers. Vrana is known for its many historical and natural attractions. But for us, the most relevant this time is the private Vransko Motorcycle Museum, which is located in the very center of the town and is open every day, except Monday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Built with soul, the museum on a 400 m2 covered area shows the development and history of motorcycling for 4 euros. His collection consists of approximately 140 motorcycles from all time periods. Among them are also engines from the beginning of the century, among which there are rare examples of global importance. Among them shine the Indian Scout and Ner-A-Car motorcycles from the 20s and the Ariel and, one of the rarest and most expensive motorcycles, the four-cylinder Indian from the 30s. Military vehicles from the Second World War and many racing cars are also on display. There is also a collection of leather and canvas motorcycle clothing, helmets and even an extensive collection of license plates. The youngest visitors will be most pleased with the collection of pre-war tin motorcycles - toys. In the museum's chocolate temple, representatives of the fairer sex will also come into their own, where we can learn more about the real sweets of various motorcycle models. After a varied tour, we will stop at the "Pri gromski streli" museum pub, where the owner will be happy to tell us more about this topic over a fragrant coffee or a refreshing beer and, at our request, will also play an old movie about motorcycling.
Evening trip
We drive back home along the old road and test our "driving" skills on its curves - of course, taking into account road rules and regulations. Don't forget to stop at the traditional Trojan doughnuts, where when you order six, you get the seventh free. And if they don't tempt us already on the way, we save them for the evening, when we will comfortably settle down on the sofa and end the evening in the style of our trip. With a donut in hand, let's watch the movie Diarios de motocicleta from 2004. The movie was based on the travel notes of the revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, who, just before finishing his medical studies, went on a motorcycling trip around South America with his biochemist friend Alberto Granada . And maybe this is a hint for our next adventure.
