City Zoos: Berlin, Germany #3

The largest, the best and the most visited zoo in Germany and Europe, these are all the titles with which the Berlin ZOO, which was visited by over three million visitors last year, boasts.

But Berlin doesn't have just one, but, as is typical for a once divided city, what two zoos. It is more famous and visited Zoological Garden Berlin, in which we can see more than 1,400 animal species. It lies in the former eastern part of Berlin Tierpark Berlin – Friedrichsfelde, where, among other things, you can see baby elephants while bathing and a forest of lemurs. Berlin Zoological Garden it is also in the western part of the city Germany's oldest zoological park, opened in 1844, met its sad fate at the end of World War II during Allied bombing, when most of the park was destroyed, and only a few animals survived the bombing. The biggest stars of the zoo were the polar bear Knut, who was abandoned by his mother at birth and survived thanks to the careful care of the staff, but to the great sadness of all of Germany he died suddenly in 2011, and the giant panda Bao Bao.
