For the first time in the history of this model and brand, BMW will also offer the cult mini in a five-door version, with which they want to replace the less successful clubman. Compared to the three-door version, the five-door mini will offer more roominess and flexibility, the same range of engines and equipment, and about five percent higher price.
The five-door version announced for this fall is expected to be derived from the three-door mini, which Wheelbase was increased by 72 millimeters to 2,567 mm, while the body has gained 161 mm in length, which means that the meter will show almost exactly four meters.
In addition, with an additional pair of doors increases the practicality of the model, but this also offers more spaciousness and flexibility, especially in the head area (+15 mm) and in the shoulder area (+61 mm), and there is now a welcome 72 mm more room for the knees of passengers in the second row. Grown up it is also the trunk namely by 67 litres, to 278 litres, or 941 when the rear seat bench is collapsed.
The designers were in a hurry when it came to the external image, especially with the shape of the side, because by adding an additional pair of side doors they did not want to disrupt the coherence of the three-door version, which is known from the fact that the first door is inappropriately longer than the second pair, which can reduce the ease of entering the second seat type.
The engine range is, as we could expect, the same as that of the three-door version, which means that at launch it will be based on the Cooper version powered by 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with 100 kilowatts (136 hp), and there is a version higher up the scale cooper S, which hides a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 141 kW or 192 hp in the nose. On the diesel side, there are the cooper D, which is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder diesel with 85 kW or 116 hp, while the cooper SD version is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel with 125 kW or 170 hp. The gearbox will basically be a six-speed manual, but it can be changed for an additional fee automatic transmission. The difference with ALL4 four-wheel drive has not yet been discussed, nor has pricing, but the five-door mini is expected to be 5 to 8 percent more expensive than the comparable three-door version.
