Ferrari 488 GTB – The Ferrari 458 italia got a worthy successor

GTB, or gran turismo berlinetta, is the designation Ferrari has used for its special GT sports coupe versions throughout most of its rich history. Now, this abbreviation also adorns the renovated 458 Italia, which, in addition to the final one, also got a new designation - 488. It got a smaller, but more powerful V8, which squeezes out as much as 670 hp from the 3.9-liter volume and Ferrari's "GT car" starts up to a speed of over 330 km/h.

Ferrari 458 Italia it is so got a successor, even if it is only a cosmetic renovation, which brought certain "tweeks" to the body and certain minor changes in the passenger cabin. The most important novelty, however, definitely means new 3.9 liter V8 the engine, which replaced the 4.5-liter from the 458 Italia, despite its volume being one-sixth smaller, produces as much as 100 hp more power than its predecessor, namely 670 hp and 760 Nm maximum torque.

Only the most skilled eye will notice the differences in the interior, and the driver is now even more in the center of attention than, say, in the 458 Italia.

This is enough for the acceleration to a hundred from 3.4 to magical three seconds, and it takes only 8.3 seconds to reach 200 km/h. Maximum speed at this exceeds 330 km/h, they say at Ferrari. The gearbox is still a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, why not when it works and shifts perfectly. The novelty represents variable torque control system, which ensures that there is not too much power on a single wheel in any regime and revolutions, and accelerations are as fluid as possible and at the same time as fast as possible.

Less noticeable are the changes in aerodynamics. This one is significantly more advanced and, as a result, brings 50 percent more thrust bodywork to the ground as with the previous 458 Italia, but at the same time it means significant lower drag coefficient. For better air circulation, Ferrari engineers modified the bottom of the vehicle and used the new technology of vortex generators, and the front part was given a double spoiler, which directs the air much better above and away from the body.

The 3.9-liter V8 is a real technological gem, as it produces an almost incredible 172 hp per liter of volume.

The interior also brought only mild improvements, where an attentive and skilled eye will notice slightly different gauges, and the center console is now slightly more oriented towards the driver, with which they wanted to place the latter even more in the center of the action. Concretely, he was also too different infotainment screen, which still has a place between the gauges, and the newly designed vehicle key also enables a contactless function and thus contactless start.
