An extremely rare red-haired giraffe is exciting scientists and the web

Beauty comes in many forms. And the same can be said for the giraffe, which was lovingly named after the popular local washing powder Omo.

Omo the giraffe suffers from loss of pigmentation or leucism, as her skin cells are unable to produce pigment. As the scientists point out, Om is not an albino. If he was an albino, the giraffe would have to have red eyes as well. Omo, on the other hand, has a sparkling and very cute look.

Giraffe Omo thus provides a unique insight into the wonderful world of nature, where even such peculiarities amaze us again and again.
