Lamborghini asterion – the first hybrid super sports lambo

Lamborghini has presented the fruits of their engineers' hard work in the form of the brand's first hybrid supercar, which brings a more elegant exterior in the style of the legendary Miura. Under the back cover, the well-known 5.2-liter V10 spins, which, together with as many as three electric motors, produces 669 kilowatts of power and can travel up to 50 km on electricity alone.

They are connoisseurs of design Lamborghini Asterion already declared for successor of miura, as from a design point of view it introduces more elegant and less sporty aggressive lines that characterize, for example, adventurer. Even in the interior, fans of the brand will find some parallel with the legendary Miura, namely in the shape retro designed three-spoke steering wheel, dressed in the same amount of color shades, but modern times cropped below.

The doors are also special, especially their opening, which does not open upwards like in the Aventador, but slightly to the side and upwards. This should make it easier to open and enter the vehicle, while still looking imposing.

If we dissect the otherwise always characteristic name ending a little, it tells us a lot about the drive itself. LP ('longitudinale posteriore) stands for longitudinal rear engine placement (characteristic of all Lambot V12 engines) I (hybrido) indicates that it is a hybrid version, 910 means maximum power, which asterion reaches, final four typical for the Lamborghini brand four-wheel drive.

Under the rear transparent glass, the familiar from the huracan spins like this 5.2 liter V10, which develops 449 kW or 610 hp, which, however, via seven-speed dual-clutch shiftable automatic drives merely rear pair of wheels, while two electric motors mounted on the front axle, they drive the front ones wheeled couple. The third electric motor is located in the gearbox housing.

The interior is typical and recognizable Lamborghini. In addition to modernity, it is also characterized by relative simplicity. There is also some affinity with the Miura, with which it is connected by a retro-modern steering wheel.

Front, rear and four-wheel drive

Three electric motors together produce 221 kW or 300 hp and are driven by the assembly lithium-ion batteries installed in the central tunnel, which is normally reserved for the gearbox housing. At Lamborghini, they said that the entire electrical assembly (engines and batteries) weighs everything 250 kilograms. In total, the powertrain as already mentioned produces 669 kW or 910 hp, which is enough, the driver of the asterion drives to the finish line 320 km/h, acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h takes 3.0 seconds.

Having said that, he is capable to speed 125 km/h to drive purely electric drive, and in this case the drive is exclusively front. The super sports car is also exceptionally economical for its segment 4.2 liter consumption and 98 grams of CO2 emissions, and with one battery charge you can only on electricity overcomes distances up to 50 km.

Series production is not finalized yet, most likely because Lamborghini is stepping into the unknown with the Asterion and wants to get some feedback from potential buyers before making a decision. But as was the case Porsche 918 spyder and McLaren P1, the clientele responded very positively to the implementation of the electric drive in these vehicles.
