A floating vegetable garden in New York

When art and the public good collide, extraordinary stories are often written, and this one is one of those. Markets are nothing new in New York, but they haven't had anything like this before. The Swale, as it has been dubbed, is a vegetable garden on a transport vessel plying the waters of New York. It started its journey last summer, but this year it was presented in a new, improved image.

The idea was born Mary Mattingly, a visual artist who wished that fresh vegetables, for free, became accessible to all residents of the city. This year, she invited a company to the project Strongbow, a producer of apple wine, and together they are Swale changed to almost 500 square meters a large vegetable garden; they poured tons of soil, gravel and stones, planted 8 apple trees and 200 perennial plants. Visitors will also be able to exchange different seeds and cooking recipes.

Similar ideas already exist in the world in one form or another, and it's nice that people from big cities have more and more opportunities to be in contact with nature and a healthy lifestyle.
